Print the First Issue of 'Prairie Light' Photo Journal

The Prairies are the most photographed and least seen landscape in Canada. Grain elevators at golden hour, sure — but also Filipino karaoke nights in Brandon, the last fluent Michif speakers, rodeo medics, sundogs over the Trans-Canada, and teenagers doing donuts in a Walmart parking lot at -40. We've spent two years collecting this work from 24 photographers across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

Prairie Light is a 120-page, large-format, perfect-bound journal — printed on a Heidelberg press in Winnipeg by a third-generation family printshop, because a project about prairie craft should be made with prairie craft. No ads. Photographers are paid for their work, which shouldn't be a radical sentence, but here we are.

The $12,000 raises covers: photographer fees (40%), printing 1,500 copies (45%), and shipping/fulfillment (15%). Every backer at $35+ gets the issue itself, mailed anywhere in Canada or the US. At $100 you get the issue plus a signed 8x10 print from the cover series. At $500, you're listed as a founding patron in Issue One and every issue after — assuming we earn an "after."
